Germany's e-invoice mandate. Ready on time, without stress.
Since January 2025 every business in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices. From 2027 companies with more than €800,000 turnover must send them, and from 2028 everyone. A normal PDF no longer counts. GoinLabs gets your company ready, whether you are based in Germany or sell to German customers from abroad.

What applies and when.
Since 1 January 2025
All businesses in Germany must be able to receive and process e-invoices. Paper and PDF are still allowed for sending until the end of 2026.
From 1 January 2027
Companies with more than €800,000 turnover in the previous year must send e-invoices to other businesses.
From 1 January 2028
All companies must send e-invoices for domestic B2B sales. Small amounts up to €250 are an exception.
Eight years archive
E-invoices must be stored unchanged in their original format, in line with the German GoBD rules.

Your German customers will ask for it.
The mandate applies to businesses established in Germany, but your German customers need correct e-invoices to deduct input VAT. In practice they will ask suppliers for XRechnung or ZUGFeRD. We help companies in Europe, the United States and Asia deliver invoices their German customers can process, in English and German.
- XRechnung (pure XML) and ZUGFeRD (PDF with XML)
- Based on the European standard EN 16931
- Checks before sending, so invoices are not rejected

What counts as an e-invoice in Germany?
An invoice in a structured electronic format based on the European standard EN 16931, such as XRechnung or ZUGFeRD from version 2.0.1. A normal PDF sent by email is not an e-invoice.
Who has to send e-invoices from 2027?
Companies in Germany with more than €800,000 turnover in the previous year. From 2028 the obligation applies to all companies for domestic B2B sales.
Are there exceptions?
Yes, for example small invoices up to €250 gross, travel tickets and invoices to private customers. Small businesses under § 19 UStG do not have to send e-invoices but must be able to receive them.
Can our ERP create e-invoices?
Often yes, with the right extension or interface. We check your system and connect it so XRechnung or ZUGFeRD files are created automatically.
Is this legal advice?
No. We explain the rules and build the technology. For tax questions we recommend talking to your tax adviser as well.
