Germany is switching business-to-business invoicing to structured e-invoices. A PDF by email will soon no longer count as a proper invoice. Most companies are not ready yet.

Every company in Germany must be able to receive and process e-invoices. This already applies, with no exceptions for size.

Companies with more than €800,000 turnover in 2026 must send e-invoices to business customers in Germany.

All companies must send e-invoices. Paper and plain PDF invoices are no longer allowed between businesses.
What happens if you are not ready
Your customers lose money
Without a proper e-invoice, your customer's input VAT deduction is on hold. Expect them to send invoices back and pay later.
XML you cannot read
An XRechnung is a data file, not a document. Without software, an incoming e-invoice is a wall of code.
Archive in the original
E-invoices must be kept in their original electronic form, unchanged, for the legal retention period. A folder of printouts is not enough.

The EU anti-money-laundering regulation applies from 10 July 2027, and NIS2 security questionnaires are already landing on suppliers' desks.

Questions we hear a lot
Do I need this if my turnover is under €800,000?
Yes, just a year later. You already have to be able to receive e-invoices since 2025, and from 1 January 2028 every company has to send them. Starting now means no rush at the end.
Is a PDF by email still enough?
Only during the transition period, and only if your customer agrees. A plain PDF is not an e-invoice. GoinVault creates the PDF with the e-invoice built in, so your customer gets both.
What is the difference between XRechnung and ZUGFeRD?
Both follow the European standard EN 16931. XRechnung is a pure data file. ZUGFeRD is a PDF with the data file inside, so people can read it and software can process it. GoinVault creates and checks both.
What happens after the 14 days?
GoinVault pauses until you enter a licence key from GoinLabs. Nothing is deleted, and you can export your data at any time.
Is my data deleted when the trial ends?
No. GoinVault only locks until a licence key is entered. All your invoices, documents and settings stay safe, and you can export everything at any time.
How do I get a licence?
Ask us through the contact form or at info@goinlabs.com. You get a key like GV-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, which you enter in GoinVault under Einstellungen → Lizenz. If you have a GoinLabs Client Vault, your key is waiting there too.
Can I use it on Windows, Mac and my phone?
Yes. Install the app on Windows or Mac, use it in any browser, or add the web app to your phone's home screen. The download page picks the right version for your device.
Can I leave if I want to?
Yes. Full export at any time, including a DATEV export. That is our exit guarantee.
Where is my data stored?
In the EU.
Does it replace my tax advisor?
No. It makes working with them easier: invite your tax advisor into GoinVault and export to DATEV.
